Why is my eardrum twitching?

It has like a thumping sound when it does it.... it's not like all the time but it just feels like if you have a muscle that twitches. I had surgery on this ear about 8 years ago... I was born deaf in this ear so they had to rebuild me a new eardrum and everything. Is this just wax?
